55 Keong Saik #01-01

55 Keong Saik Kesa House4

Location History
Keong Saik Road in Chinatown, named after prominent businessman Tan Keong Saik in 1926, has transformed from a residential area to a red-light district in the 1960s, and now into a commercial hub. Initially lined with houses, charcoal wholesalers, and coffee shops, it evolved into a red-light area due to its proximity to Smith Street. In the early 1990s, the Urban Redevelopment Authority restored and sold old shophouses, attracting high-end tenants such as boutique hotels, offices, and bars.

Building Features
Likely built during the 1910s, 55 Keong Saik Road is a Late Shophouse Style with elements of a residential shopfront, façade and ornamentation.
